Now, number-one New York Times best-selling author Sean Williams brings the world of the game to life in his latest novel, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Fatal Alliance.
Tassaa Bareesh, a matriarch in the Hutt crime cartel, is holding an auction that's drawing attention from across the galaxy. Representatives of both the Republic and the Sith Empire are present, along with a Jedi Padawan sent to investigate, a disenfranchised trooper drummed out of the Republic's elite Blackstar Squad, and a mysterious Mandalorian with a private agenda. But the Republic's envoy is not what he seems, the Empire's delegate is a ruthless Sith apprentice, the Jedi Padawan is determined to do the right thing and terrified that he can't, the trooper hopes to redeem her reputation, and the Mandalorian is somehow managing to keep one step ahead of everyone.
None of these guests-invited or uninvited-have any intention of participating in the auction. Instead they plan to steal the prize, which is locked inside an impregnable vault: two burned chunks of an exploded star cruiser, one of which may hold the key to the wealth of an entire world.
But the truth about the treasure is dangerous and deadly. And in the end, Sith and Jedi, Republic and Empire, must do something they've never done before, something that all the agents of good and evil could never make them do: join together to stop a powerful threat that could destroy the galaxy.

The Old Republic: Deceived is the story of a Sith Lord who rebels against the Empire, and it comes from the video game Star Wars: The Old Republic. Darth Malgus is the Sith Lord who leads Empire troops into Coruscant, destroys the Jedi Temple, and kills Ven Zallow, one of the strongest Jedi Masters. Malgus is driven by his intense beliefs that the Empire should rule, the Jedi should be wiped out, and no mercy should be shown. He is a feared leader among the Sith Lords, but he does have one weakness. He loves a Twi'lek female named Eleena.Malgus wants to see all of Coruscant leveled but is overruled by the Emperor. The result is the Treaty of Coruscant that gives what is left of the planet back to the Republic in exchange for several extremely important gains by the Empire. Malgus seethes at the weakness of his leaders in not completely wiping out the Republic when possible. His triumph over Ven Zallow also has unexpected results when a young Jedi knight named Aryn Leneer returns to Coruscant seeking a showdown with Malgus for the death of her Master. The story introduces us to additional interesting characters and moves along at a rapid pace through a number of twists and turns. I found it to be extremely enjoyable to read. The book also gave me one of my new favorite expressions, although I don't know when I will use it. At one point Darth Malgus is ordered by a superior Sith Lord to do some things he does not want to do. Here is how Malgus feels at that point. "In the span of a day he had gone from the conqueror of Coruscant to a second-tier Darth." I love the expression "second-tier Darth."
Im a big Old Republic fan and despite all the negative reviews of this book it is a good read in itself. Now giving them that little bit of credit if you are a long time big hearted fan of the KOTOR games and you're looking for an epic closure for Revan then there is definitely going to be a big let down. Im not going into grave detail because plenty of reviewers have done far better than I could with that and I wholeheartedly agree with them because I was pulled hard into the games. They are by far my favorite games and I hope they will one day remake them for the newer consoles if they can do so without ruining the game. Now back on topic, this books closure of Revan and the Exile is indeed a grave let down im very disappointed. I'd rather go back to letting my mind wonder on what happened to revan than let this be the end of the story.
This book is erroneously titled as “Revan†leaving you with the belief you are buying a book about him. However it should be titled “Lord Scourge: Ascendancy†as the book is mainly about the afore mentioned Sith Lord and his rise to power.Revan is reduced to a minor role in this book, and we get a few lines telling us of his companions. While the Exile also shows up, the lack of any mention of the fate of their companions is also very disappointing.Over all the book though a decent read, was not at all what I was hoping for or expecting.Everything that occurs in here is nearly covered in the same detail as the MMO Swtor tell us.
I have played both KotOR games hundreds of times growing up, and Revan is my favorite Star Wars character of all time, so of course I had to read this. (I do not play TOR)It was a page turner and a great read over all. It is definitely worth to read just to piece together the events between the first and second games. However, this book isn't that great as a standalone, which is what I was expecting. I didn't want to get into reading and entire series to find out the true ending. If you're like me and hoping this is a standalone, prepare yourself for a mediocre ending.I still recommend this as it was mostly entertaining, I just couldn't help but be disappointed with an otherwise anti-climactic finish.
It was ok. I was expecting Revan to be depicted in a story that showed how awesome he was with the force. But that never happened. Instead we are told he’s incredibly powerful with the force and only given two sentences of him taking out one Sith Lord. Having said that, it was still interesting. You learn more about lord scourge than revan in this book, so at least that’s a plus. It’s still by far better story telling than anything Disney puts out.
After playing the MMO "The Old Republic" (TOR) on and off for a few years, I finally started to get into the lore of the game. Outside of the game the first place I looked - after some player reccomendations - was "Revan." The novel "fills in the blanks" between not just Knights of the Old Republic (KotOR) 2 and TOR, but also between the first two KotOR games. "Revan" sets the stage for SOME of the storylines in TOR, but nothing too earth shattering.I read this in hindsight, and unfortunately the novel's short length doesn't allow for a whole of additional "meat" than, say, a Wiki entry. I'm sure at the time of the release of the novel - and before players could truly get into TOR - this novel would have been a great addition to the game's lore (and a great setup to a few of the stories, as mentioned), but after two and a half years if playing I just wasn't too enthralled with it. It does a great job at what it was supposed to do (fill in some of the blanks before players could explore the TOR galaxy in-depth), but as a Star Wars title, Revan definitely does NOT stand on its own.I'd recommend this to anyone who has played the original KotOR games and is thinking about trying TOR, but for anyone without an interest in that era/those games I would avoid the title. Even if you're not a fan of the games, there is one title - "Annihalation" - that I strongly recommend if you're just looking for a Star Wars novel that can stand on its own merits.
