Moundville tells the story of the ancient people who lived there, the modern struggle to save the site from destruction, and the scientific saga of the archaeologists who brought the story to life. A quick, non-technical, overview of the history of this important site. Clearly intended as a basic text for visitors to the site it's nonetheless worth reading for the "armchair archaeologist". But don't stop with just this book: not only is it a bit dated but it's far from complete even within the timeframe of coverage. Even better, visit the actual site. Like many things, Moundville is best experienced in-person. This would be a good preparatory text for such a visit or to put in context some of what you're seeing.
What a great little book! My wife went here in 1988, and really enjoyed the tour. We would like to go back.
